, the benghazi attacks? >> the benghazi attacks, you know, i know there are -- i believe there will be a report coming out tomorrow by the pickering group that will obviously present their view of what took place and where the problems were. my sense is that on that day, that when you look at what took place in benghazi, that it is, you know, as always with these kinds of situations, there is a mix here, but clearly with regards to one of the facilities involved, a direct attack on the facility. i think that there's no question that extremists were involved in those attacks, and i think that we are able to try to respond as best we could at the time. we've learned a lot and we will continue to learn a lot from that incident. i think it's very important for us in an area where people can be exposed to that kind of threat, that would be able to respond and respond quickly in order to make sure that that doesn't happen again. >> have you seen the benghazi arb? and do you support the referral of mike vickers for criminal prosecution on basis of leaking classified info to "zero dark thirty" producer

. an independent panel researching what happened in benghazi on september 11th is out with its report. and its findings lay heavy blame on the state department. it cites systemic failures and deficiencies in leadership and management. the report calls benghazi security efforts grossly inadequate. no one person is singled out in a report for having ignored or violated his or her responsibilities. but before it does hone in on chastising two departments within the state department, that would be the bureau of diplomatic security and the bureau of affairs. they lacked coordination and communication to protect our mission in benghazi. the report didn't find out anything new about the attack itself. we did find out that there was no protest that sparked the ambush as we know. this was all of the work of terrorists. the report makes 29 recommendations and secretary of state clinton says she will accept them all. she says there are already some recommendations in the plan. they've started implementing those. one would

to close down the cia annex in benghazi? >> reporter: it's worth contrasting the status of the consulate with that. while the consulate site has never been secured, fox news is told that the cia annex in benghazi was shuttered by september 12th less than 24 hours after the attack. all classified information was removed or pwurpbld. burned. the decision to close down the annex same at 5:15 local time when the annex took fire from two mortars. the process began the night before after the consulate was attacked in the evening hours. the initial stages of the agency's proscribed evacuation kicked in as a cautionary step. once it was clear they could not sustain their position that was wrapped up and they were able to get everything out, classified information, either moved or destroyed by about 7:00am local time. so the contrast is that within hours the cia was able to close down their operation, and that consulate has never been secured by any u.s. personnel, jon. jon: and it's almost three months later and still all of these questions. >> reporter: that's correct, uh-huh. jon: thank you, c

if obama chooses her as his next secretary of state. as we've seen since the benghazi attack, mccain is one of rice's harshest critics. the two met late last month along with other senators to discuss rice's television appearances during the aftermath of those september 11th attacks in libya. rice hoped to put mccain's fears at ease but he came out of the meetings saying he only had more questions than when he went in. mccain spokesman says he will seek a spot on the international affairs panel which oversees the state department. republicans have said they would rather see john kerry as circumstance -- secretary of state over susan rice. hillary clinton is still polling very well after her stint with the state department and democrats are practically begging to see her in 2016. according to the latest abc news, "washington post" poll, 57% of people say they would support her run. although abc is reporting today she said she'll most likely devote her time to her husband clinton's foundation to focus on women and girls wo

. there's no question that benghazi continues to be litigated. even on the democratic side, there is some division on this. i've talked to democratic senators who have questioned whether she has the standing, the stature, to be secretary of state. so obviously there's some division about how people view susan rice. but here's the bottom line. she's very close to the president of the united states. she is a key voice in his national security team. that's what could ultimately win the day. john kerry has been campaigning hard for it. he's done everything this administration has asked in their first term. overseas, been quite engaged as chairman of the foreign relations committee. so he's certainly a very strong candidate. but at this point, even people close to the president suggest there's just a bit of a question mark about how much of a fight he wants and how much it will come down to getting somebody he believes in and he's close to into that job. >> congressman cleaver, your thoughts on susan rice as a potential nominee. >> well, i think susan rice is imminently qualified and capable o
